The FDA will be introducing new food labeling requirements to take effect this month, but implemented over the next two years. Some will argue that these new labeling designs are long overdue, but others suggest that the FDA is introducing new labeling requirements that are most-likely already out-of-date and confusing to consumers.
I don’t pretend to know, but I have never found the FDA particularly responsive to getting nutrition facts to the public. In any event, here is a hypothetical mockup (numbers are fictitious) which illustrates the new labeling.
While this new label will quickly allow the consumer to view the number of calories in a serving and other nutritional information, you still need to READ THE FINE PRINT.
While Gourmet Living intends to apply the new FDA labeling requirements to newly sourced products (subject to chemical testing), our current products have been selected based on their nutritional and health benefits.
